How do you become a telehandler operator?
To become a telehandler operator, you will need to complete a telehandler training course and qualify for a statement of attainment that outlines the successful completion of all required training and assessment. This is to make sure that you can work in a way that is safe and efficient at all times.
If you operate non-slewing telehandlers with a rated capacity of more than 3 tonnes, you can now complete this tailored non-slewing telehandler training and get a specific non-slewing telehandler HRWL, rather than a full mobile crane licence.
You’ll need the new licence if you:
- Operate a non-slewing telehandler with a rated capacity of more than 3 tonnes in Victoria
- Do not have a current mobile crane HRWL
You won’t need the new licence if you already hold a mobile crane HRWL.
Where a work platform attachment is used, further competency and/or HRWL requirements may apply.
How do you get certified to operate a telehandler?
Anyone who wants to get certified to operate a telehandler will need to undertake the relevant training. A telehandler course will teach you all of the required skills to work safely across a range of different work sites and locations.
How do I get my telehandler licence?
You can get your telehandler licence by signing up for a training course with a registered training organisation. You will learn planning and preparation, operation of a telehandler, removing and fitting attachments, relocating a dozer, machine maintenance, clean up and more. This is required if you want to work as a telehandler operator.
Is it hard to drive a telehandler?
Driving a telehandler requires skill and expertise, but with the proper training and practise, it can be achieved. Experienced operators can work across all types of worksites to complete jobs in a quick, safe, and efficient manner. The best way to gain confidence is by completing a training course and practising in the field.
Is there Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)?
Due to the short duration of this course, RPL is not available because of the significant time and resources needed to complete the process.
MultiSkills Training is committed to transparency and fairness. Information regarding RPL is also available in our Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning Policy, which is available on our resources page. In addition, our administrative team is available to discuss this with you upon request.
