Gain the skills you need

Dogging consists of two key abilities. These are the slinging techniques employed for moving a load, including the inspection and selection of any lifting equipment, and the skill to direct a crane or hoist operator who is moving a load that is out of their view. Undertaken across 5 days at either our Geelong or Werribee campus, MultiSkillsโ€™ dogging training course will offer you everything you need to learn the skills required of you as a dogman.

If youโ€™re not certain this is the right dogging training course for you or you simply want to know more about what MultiSkills can offer, contact our efficient staff via phone on 1800SKILLS or visit our contact us page.

Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)

MultiSkills Training has reviewed the structure and delivery of this unit and determined that Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is not offered for this course.

Due to the short duration of the program, the time and effort required for a student to gather sufficient evidence and complete a formal RPL application is likely to exceed the time it would take to complete the training and assessment. In addition, the RTO resources required to assess and validate RPL applications for this course make the process not viable or efficient in this context.

This decision aligns with the guidance outlined in the Outcome Standards Policy Guidance (Standards for RTOs 2025), which recognises that RPL may not be appropriate or practical in all circumstances.

MultiSkills Training is committed to transparency and fairness. Information regarding RPL is also available in our Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning Policy, which is available on our resources page. In addition, our administrative team is available to discuss this with you upon request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a dogman ticket?

A dogman ticket is a Worksafe licence to perform high risk work. Itโ€™s a certification that a worker must legally hold to undertake dogging work on a jobsite. Essential to a wide variety of industrial, civil, mining, gas and construction projects, dogmen handle the manoeuvring and slinging of loads including tools, materials and equipment.

How much is a dogman ticket?

Getting a dogman ticket requires both theory and practical training and assessment. At MultiSkills Training, you can undertake training and get assessed for your dogman licence for $1500 per person.

What is the difference between a dogman and a rigger?

The work of dogmen and riggers will often look similar, but there are tasks and responsibilities that a rigger can take on that dogmen canโ€™t. Where a dogman can select and inspect lifting gear, sling loads, and direct a crane or hoist operator in the movement of loads; a licenced rigger can move plant and equipment, erect steel and materials hoists, install static lines and safety nets, and erect a variety personnel platforms, safety nets and static lines. Important to note though, both dogmen and riggers need to have an HRW Licence to undertake their work.

What can a dogman lift?

WorkSafe Victoria describes dogging and dogmen as: โ€œWorkers who need to exercise judgement to sling loads or who direct crane movement from outside the crane operatorโ€™s full view (such as with whistle signals or radio).โ€For more information on dogman work in Victoria, get in contact with MultiSkills Training today.

Is there Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)?

I just finished my third ticket with Graham and am very happyโ€”he's a great trainer and has a wide array of knowledge/experience in the construction and mining industries. He took the time to get to know us and communicated clearly what's expected in order to be competent and pass the assessments, while being helpful and understanding throughout the process.

Hey all curious and keen up and comers, This is Brendo-step right up and face your fears, trust me !!! MULTISKILLS WERRIBEE = GREAT VIBES AND PROFESSIONALISM - as soon as i entered the gates of Multiskills heaven any anxietys or self doubts were quickly distinguished by the friendly pleasant admin staff and perfectionist instructors- especially SEAN "THE GUN" LOMAS - the master perfectionist!!! I was lucky enough to have Sean as my first instructor at Multiskills in the Cert 3 Plant Operations - his eye for detail was refreshing and ON POINT critique was emphatic - he really did pack a punch ripping through all of my class like lightning! I say this because from sucking up my pride and mistakes during the course and listening to and watching Sean closely and implementing his superior knowledge and demonstrations into my practicals i constantly improved and my confidence soared - i would definately be confident entering the civil construction work field with the valuable plant machine tickets i have aquired and the skills i have achieved thanks to Multiskills!! A special mention must go to JOSH....Seans wingman , what a team!!! Josh was another instructor teaching another equivalent class who cared enough to take his time to chip in and help us achieve excellence to the best of our ability - we were getting tag teamed by years of experience - my definition of BLISS!! I will most definately be spending more time at Multiskills over the next 2 years riding the clouds of Multiskills heaven learning all that is offered by Sean, Josh and the extended team, thanks everyone, BANG ON!!!!

A couple of different stages of experience amongst our group and he did well accomadating everyone. It was good having an instructor who was there to pass on and share his vast knowledge without trying to blow his own trumpet. Will be back 100% for any other licenses i need in the future.

โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ Absolutely recommend Multiskills Training! Iโ€™m currently studying the 15-Day Civil Construction course with Multiskills Training, and honestly, I couldnโ€™t be happier with the experience so far. A huge shout-out to Sean, who runs the course. Sean doesnโ€™t mess around when it comes to safety, procedures and making sure you actually understand the knowledge behind civil construction. He explains everything in a way that makes it easy to understand, so you donโ€™t walk away feeling completely dumbfounded. When I first started, I honestly didnโ€™t have a clue about operating a skid steer, excavator, roller, backhoe or the other machinery. Now, after the training and hands-on experience, Iโ€™ve learned how to control and operate the machinery with so much more confidence. Thatโ€™s a massive achievement for me! The classroom environment has also been freaking awesome. My classmates are kick-back, easy to talk to and always willing to help each other out when someone needs a hand. Everyone has made the learning experience so much better. Iโ€™m learning heaps, gaining confidence and actually enjoying the course. Sean makes sure you understand not only how to operate the machinery, but also the safety requirements, policies and procedures that come with working in civil construction. If youโ€™re thinking about getting into civil construction, I highly recommend Multiskills Training in Geelong/Werribee. Thanks Sean for all the knowledge, patience and hands-on training! I came in not knowing how to operate this machinery, and Iโ€™m walking away with skills and confidence I never had before. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿ‘ท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ 10/10 from me! โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ
