These government-subsidised courses are designed to get you work-ready without impacting your hip pocket.

What are Skills First Skill Sets Courses?

Skills First Skill Sets courses are short, targeted, government subsidised courses designed to help you gain the specific skills you need to excel in your chosen field. They are part of the Skills First Funding program, a Victorian Government initiative to make vocational education and training more accessible to people who need it.

What are the eligibility criteria and fee structure?

To meet Skills First eligibility, you must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, New Zealand citizen, or an Asylum Seeker (as part of the Asylum Seeker VET Program under Skills First). 

Your age or qualification does not affect whether you are eligible. Eligible students may start up to two skill sets per calendar year and can undertake a maximum of two Skills First courses at any given time.

If you are eligible for Skills First Skill Sets with MultiSkills Training, you may be subsidised for up to the full Fee for Service cost of your course. 

What Skills First Skill Sets courses have previously been offered at MultiSkills?

CONISS008 – Licence to erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding basic level

This 5-day scaffolding course covers the work required to plan the job, select and inspect equipment, set up tasks, erect and dismantle scaffold and scaffold equipment. This course includes nationally recognised competency units and is based on the National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High-Risk Work. Upon successful completion, you can apply for a high-risk work licence (HRW) basic scaffolding ticket issued by WorkSafe Victoria.

CONISS012 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (White Card Victoria)

White Card Course - MultiSkills Training

This unit of competency covers the mandatory work health and safety training required before undertaking construction work. You can complete the construction white card course in one day by demonstrating personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements to work safely and prevent injury or harm to yourself and others.

CONISS014 – Enter and Work in Confined Spaces (Confined Spaces Course)

Confined Space Ticket - Confined Space Training Certificate - MultiSkills Training

By completing this 1-day course, students will qualify for a confined spaces ticket, demonstrating they have the skills and knowledge required to enter and work in confined spaces in the resources and infrastructure industries. Operational roles undertaking work in confined spaces require this nationally recognised competency in confined spaces training.

CONISS015 – Licence to operate a forklift truck (LF Forklift Licence Course)

This 2-day forklift certification covers the skills and knowledge required to operate a forklift truck safely. A forklift truck refers to a powered industrial truck equipped with lifting media, comprising a mast and an elevating load carriage attached to a pair of fork arms or other attachments that can be raised 900 mm or more above the ground. It’s important to note that this definition excludes pedestrian-operated or pallet truck machinery. Completing this unit of competency qualifies you to apply for a high-risk work (HRW) forklift truck licence issued by WorkSafe Victoria.

CONISS020 – Traffic Management Skill Set (Road Traffic Control Course Melbourne)

Our 2-day traffic control course (also known as a traffic management course) covers the skills and knowledge required to set out, monitor and close down traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes in civil construction. A nationally recognised unit of competency, this course provides the skills and knowledge required to control vehicle and pedestrian traffic using stop-slow bats, hand signals, and approved communication devices in the resources and infrastructure industries.
